The Question of the Youth Tissa Metteyya

Who is contented here in the world?

(said the venerable Tissa Metteyya)

For whom are there no agitations?

Who, having directly known both ends,

is undefiled in the middle through understanding?

Whom do you call a great person?

Who here has gone beyond the seamstress, craving?

One living the holy life regarding sensual pleasures,

(said the Blessed One, Metteyya,)

free from craving, always mindful,

a disciple extinguished through understanding—

for him there are no agitations.

He, having directly known both ends,

is undefiled in the middle through understanding.

Him I call a great person;

he here has gone beyond the seamstress, craving.

The Question of the Youth Tissa Metteyya is second.
